After a chance encounter sparks a sweeping romance, Maya's future is suddenly upended, sending her on an unexpected journey to love and live again.

From the TIFF programme

Featuring a beautifully understated performance from Margaret Qualley (TIFF ’24’s The Substance), this sweeping romantic character study from director Rachel Morrison (TIFF ’24’s The Fire Inside) is an exhilarating testament to loving fully, making amends, and moving on.

Saturday, September 19: This screening will be presented with open captions.

By turns soulful, heartbreaking, and wise, this complex character study from director Rachel Morrison (TIFF ’24’s The Fire Inside) and screenwriter Julia Cox (TIFF ’23’s Nyad) provides the perfect showcase for the talented Margaret Qualley (TIFF ’24’s The Substance). Following a young woman’s romantic adventures and relationships over several years and continents, Love of Your Life is a contemporary portrait of love, loss, and letting go.

Maya (Qualley) is a 26-year-old Boston nurse when she falls in love with Charlie (A House of Dynamite’s Gabriel Basso). Emotions deepen quickly, the couple marries, but all things fall tragically apart with the onset of the pandemic. Maya abruptly flees her life in the US, severing all her connections — including her best friend Jason (Patrick Schwarzenegger, TIFF ’26’s Bunker). She becomes a digital nomad in Portugal, where she meets Felix (Aaron Pierre, TIFF ’22’s Brother), who revives her capacity for intimacy and prompts a move to England. But can any amount of transformation or new beginnings stave off the ghosts Maya seems determined to run from?

The film spotlights Qualley’s beautifully understated performance, and is supported by powerful moments from Oscar nominee Catherine Keener (TIFF ’05’s Capote), Directed with an assured and authentic hand by Rachel Morrison, Love of Your Life speaks to what it means to be a young woman and alive in the world today.
